Hong Kong’s sky is known for its smog all year round. It is always a luxury to see a clear sky, without it looking like you are viewing through frosted glass.

This image captured that luxurious moment during blue hour. High-level clouds were painted with a purple tint. What I love about this image is the clear separation of three layers: the purple sky, the blue sea, and the yellowish rocky terrain. The soft, diffused lighting during blue hour enhances the overall visual harmony and creates a calm, balanced composition.

I arrived at the location before sunset. when marine traffic was still relatively busy, with many ships and boats passing by. Luckily, it became less busy during blue hour. There was still a container ship moving very slowly from left to right, and I recognized it could be a nice element if I blurred it with a long exposure. So I took the chance and put on the ND filter. During the long exposure, a speedboat entered the frame. Both elements blended well with the scene, adding subtle motion and a point of interest behind the lighthouse..
